FAQS

Are there height or weight limits for bike rentals?

  • We have bikes available to fit riders from about 4'9" up to 6'7" (145cm to 200cm). The weight limit for bike rentals is 260lbs (117kg) rider and gear. This includes your shoes, helmet, water, backpacks and anything else you are carrying yourself or on the bike. This limit is set by the bike manufacturers and is in place for both safety and to minimize damage to the bikes.

Where can I find information about riding around Kicking Horse and Golden?

  • The Golden Cycling Club is a great resource for learning about our local trail network, you can check them out here: https://goldencyclingclub.com/golden-cycling-club-trails/.  In addition, our shop staff all live and ride in the area, and we're happy to suggest some routes that will match your group's ability level and goals for the day.  We will provide maps and instructions for getting to the trailhead as well.

How long is the bike rental season?

  • Our bike rental season usually lasts from late May to mid September. Our entire rental fleet will be available for sale after labour day (September 2nd), as a result of this, bike rentals may be limited after this date. We will not accept any bike rental reservations after September 2nd, and rentals will be first-come first-served in store after this date.

Are all the rental bikes allowed to ride the bike park?

  • Yes, with the exception of a couple of the e-bikes, all of our rental bikes are appropriate for riding at Kicking Horse or Mount 7.  Please note that there is a price difference depending on the type of riding you plan to do, no matter which bike you are on.

Why are bike rentals more expensive if I'm riding Kicking Horse or Mount 7?

  • This is due to the fact that the bikes ride further when a lift or vehicle is used to get them uphill, and as a result we have to do more maintenance to keep the bikes in good condition.

Do you rent kid's bikes?

  • We only rent adult bikes, however we have sizes down to adult small (5'0" or 150cm).

Do you rent gloves, goggles, pumps or other accessories?

  • At the moment we only rent bikes and helmets, however we have all other accessories that you might need available for purchase.

Can I use my own pedals, grips or seat on the rental bikes?

  • Absolutely, just bring them with you, and we'll put them on the bike before you head out.

Do you rent SPD or Crankbros compatible clipless pedals?

  • Yes, but supplies are VERY limited.  If you want to guarantee pedals that will be compatible with your shoes, please bring your own.

Can I take the bike wherever I want?

  • Yes, as long as you have a proper method of transporting the bike, such as a NO FRAME CONTACT bike rack or a tailgate pad.  Remember that you will be responsible for any damage to the equipment, and improper transport is one of the most common causes of damage that we see.  If you're unsure, our staff will take a look at your setup and let you know if it's acceptable or not.

Can I keep the bike overnight?

  • Yes, as long as you have secure, indoor storage available.  If you don't have anywhere to keep it, you can bring the bike back to us for overnight storage and pick it up again the next day.

Do I need a license to ride your e-bikes?

  • You do not need a license to ride our e-bikes, however we do not rent e-bikes to anyone under the age of 16. This is an insurance requirement and no exceptions will be made.

Do I need a to sign a waiver to rent?

  • Yes, we require all renters to sign a waiver. Minors must have their parent or legal guardian present to sign the waiver before they can take the bikes out. You can view and optionally print and sign the waiver here: Waivers

Are bike rentals still available if the weather is bad?

  • Yes, bike rentals are available every day we are open, rain or shine. Please come prepared for changing weather and the possibility of rain, sleet or snow, even during the summer.

Do you ever sell your rental bikes?

  • Yes! Every fall we sell our entire demo fleet so that we can start with brand new bikes each spring. This is a great opportunity to score a well maintained used bike at an unbeatable price. Give us a call or send us an email if you would like to be on the waitlist for our demo bike sale.
